על ערברית
ערברית היא מערכת כתיבה היברידית, הממזגת אותיות עברית וערבית כדי לאפשר לדוברי שתי השפות לקרוא את אותן מילים בו זמנית. בערבית אפשר לקרוא כל אחת מהשפה מבלי להתעלם מהשנייה, להפיץ מסר של דו קיום, פשרה והכלה. פעולת החיבור בין שתי שפות שונות מטבען, בעלות משמעויות חברתיות ותרבויותית – גרפית ורעיונית – לגופן היברידי היא עמוד התווך של עבודה מתמשכת, המאפשרת קשר חדש וא-פוליטי בין דוברי עברית וערבית, מחווטת מחדש את הלך הרוח שלנו לתקשורת אחרת, אשר מאירה נקודות עיוורות, ומאתגר את הנורמות החברתיות.
לירון לביא טורקניץ׳ היא מעצבת פונטים עצמאית ויזמית של עיצוב. בוגרת תואר שני בעיצוב פונטים של אונבריסטת רדינג באנגליה ותואר ראשון ממכללת שנקר.
לירון מעצבת פונטים רב–לשוניים לחברות בינלאומית. בינם, ערברית, מערכת כתב היברידית דו–לשונית המחברת בין עברית וערבית אשר הוצגה בין השאר במוזיאון העיצוב בלונדון ובTEDx וינה. בין יוזמותיה, פרויקט 52 רעיונות ובו מיילים שבועיים העוסקים בפרודוקטיביות, אקטיביות בעבודה וניהול פרויקטים מקבילים. היא מבלה הרבה מזמנה במטוסים, ומעבירה הרצאות וסדנאות רבות בארץ ובעולם.
נוסף על כך, לירון מנהלת את תוכנית המנטורשיפ של קבוצת Alphabettes, יוזמת הגדה של פסח לילדים, מראיינת מעצבים ומארגנת כנסי עיצוב פונטים. היא אף עוסקת במחקר של האות העברית כדוגמאת אותיות מפולין ששרדו את השואה.

Aravrit: one script, two languages
This talk is about letters and words, and mostly about life and opportunities. It is a story of utopian nature which presents a new writing system: Aravrit, hybrid letters merging Hebrew and Arabic.
Each new letter is composed of a top part of an Arabic letter and a bottom part of a Hebrew letter. Thus, allowing people in Israel to read the language that they feel most comfortable with, without ignoring the other one, which is always present.
Through letters and language, the daily tools that communication is built upon, Aravrit sends a powerful message that transmits to hopeful life in Israel, side by side.
The design process of Aravrit text is long and thorough, aiming to have every word in each script very clear and legible. However, the result is simple. The viewer reads the words without any effort while feeling the ease of the possibility of a life together.
About Aravrit
Aravrit is a hybrid writing system, fusing Hebrew and Arabic letters to allow speakers of both languages to read the same words, simultaneously. In Aravrit, one can read either language without ignoring the other one, spreading a message of coexistence, compromise, and inclusion. The act of connecting two inherently conflicting languages – graphically and conceptually – into a hybrid typeface is a pivotal piece of ongoing work, enabling a new, a-politicized engagement between Hebrew and Arabic Speakers, rewiring our mindset to communicate differently, lighting up blind spots, and challenging the social norms.
Liron Lavi Turkenich is a multi-passionate design entrepreneur and a typeface designer based in Israel. She holds a B.Des in Visual Communications from Shenkar College in Tel Aviv and an MA in Typeface Design from the University of Reading, UK.
Liron designs custom multilingual typefaces for international companies, specializing in Hebrew. She is the founder of Aravrit, a new hybrid writing system that merges Hebrew and Arabic, and has received wide recognition for its ingenuity and scope. Additionally, she writes on productivity, activeness, and running multiple projects on Visual Poductivity.
Liron has several years of organizing and curating an international typeface conference. Asking questions is her superpower used for interviewing designers, teaching and researching Hebrew typefaces. She is running the Mentorship program on the global Alphabettes network and is very involved in the typeface design community.
Liron loves traveling, shares her knowledge and experiences in lectures and workshops around the world. She never stops her search for the finest coffee and gets excited by typographic treasures in dusty archives.
